Les Coins Perdus du Midi sont nés de la curiosité sans limite d'un homme qui parcourt les vignobles du monde depuis 1983.
Ne jamais se contenter des apparences : Mark souhaite aller toujours un peu plus loin. Saluer un vigneron passionné, s'arrêter dans un village oublié, prendre un verre dans le bar local et obtenir l'accès à des terroirs dont plus personne ne parle. Surprendre… et se laisser surprendre.
Et le Languedoc-Roussillon, avec ses 220 000 hectares de vignes, est un terrain de jeu idéal pour s'émerveiller. On en connaît les grandes lignes, mais sa véritable richesse réside dans l'incroyable diversité de ses terroirs. Que sont devenues les petites IGP des Côtes du Brian, des Coteaux de Peyriac ou de la Haute Vallée de l'Orb ? Et si l'on reparlait un peu plus de terroir dans cette région ?
Alors, quand on déguste l'explosion de fruit, l'intensité vibrante d'un vin en provenance d'un endroit unique, on pousse son admiration sans détour, à la façon du Sud : « BONG VING PUTAING CONG ! » Quand ça vient du cœur, il faut y aller, ça fait sourire les visages!
Cette fois-ci, ça se passe à Maury : un paysage de carte postale au pied des châteaux cathares. De jolis coteaux de schistes, où les plus jeunes vignes ont déjà plus de 30 ans et affichent une identité, et surtout un caractère bien trempé, dignes de vrais Catalans.
Et ce n'est que le début! BONG VING PUTAING CONG n'a pas fini de nous surprendre. Les premiers millésimes de La Livinière et de Boutenac sont très prometteurs, et Roquebrun pointe son nez!
Tout ça s'annonce très, très… BONG!
« Le Maury sec fait lui aussi partie de l'aventure. Mais ce n'est pas vraiment un coin perdu ; c'est plutôt un nouveau coin à découvrir. Je connaissais évidemment le Maury en vin doux naturel, mais j'ignorais complètement que Maury sec a obtenu sa propre petite appellation depuis 2011.
J'ai toujours aimé la richesse du fruit des vins du Roussillon, leurs notes de fruits noirs bien mûrs. Il m'a donc semblé tout naturel d'intégrer le Maury sec à notre projet, avec Lionel Rodénas comme vigneron partenaire local.
Nos vignes de Grenache, Syrah et Carignan sont plantées à plus de 600 mètres d'altitude. Cette fraîcheur apporte davantage d'acidité et équilibre parfaitement la richesse naturelle du vin.
Lorsque nous nous sommes retrouvés autour de la table pour l'assemblage, nous avons tout de suite été frappés par la complémentarité des différents vins. Le Grenache et la Syrah ont été vinifiés de manière traditionnelle, puis élevés légèrement en fûts de chêne français, avec différents niveaux de chauffe et de différents tonneliers. Le Carignan, lui, a été vinifié en macération carbonique afin d'assouplir ses tannins naturellement plus fermes. Il apporte aussi un fruit rouge très frais qui vient parfaitement compléter le côté plus confituré de la Syrah. Quand nous nous sommes enfin mis d'accord sur l'assemblage, la conclusion est tombée, avec l'accent du coin : « Bong Ving Putaing Cong ! »
Et nous avions trouvé bien plus qu'un nom. Nous avions trouvé une bannière sous laquelle nous pourrions réunir quelques autres gaillards du fascinant Languedoc-Roussillon. »

With more than 220,000 hectares of vineyards, Languedoc-Roussillon is an extraordinary playground for discovery. Everyone knows the region's broad outlines, but its true richness lies in the incredible diversity of its terroirs. Whatever became of the small IGPs of Côtes du Brian, Coteaux de Peyriac or the Haute Vallée de l'Orb? What if we started talking a little more about terroir in this region?
So, when you taste the explosion of fruit and the vibrant intensity of a wine from a truly unique place, you express your admiration in the straightforward southern way: “BONG VING PUTAING CONG!” When something truly moves you, there's no point in holding back. It brings a smile to everyone's face!
This time, we're in Maury, at the foot of the Cathar castles, among magnificent schist slopes where even the youngest vines are more than thirty years old. They produce wines with a distinctive identity and the bold, generous character you would expect from true Catalans.
And this is only the beginning. BONG VING PUTAING CONG is only just getting started! The first vintages from La Livinière and Boutenac are already showing great promise, with Roquebrun ready to join the adventure.
One thing is certain… it all looks very, very BONG!
“Maury sec is also part of our range, but that's not an old 'coin perdu', it's a new 'coin perdu'. I was, of course, very familiar with the sweet Maury version, but had no idea that this small region had also introduced a specific appellation for the dry variant in 2011. I've always admired the lush, dark and sweet fruit of Roussillon wines and immediately felt compelled to include the Maury sec story in our project, with Lionel Rodénas as the local winemaker.
Our vineyards, planted with Grenache, Syrah and Carignan, are situated at an altitude of over 600 metres, which provides greater acidity that creates a fine balance with the wine's richer profile.
When we first sat down together to blend, we immediately noticed how well the various components on the table complemented one another. The Grenache and Syrah were vinified traditionally and underwent light oak ageing of varied French origin with varying degrees of toasting. The Carignan underwent carbonic maceration to soften the firm tannins characteristic of the grape variety. This also brings out fresh red fruit notes that pair perfectly with the jammy Syrah in particular.
Once we'd decided on the exact blend, the conclusion, with a local twist, was that it was a 'bong ving putaing cong!', and we immediately had an umbrella under which we could hang even more blockbusters from the fascinating Languedoc-Roussillon region.”
